DH Painter & Decorator takes on commercial decorating in Grange Park, NN4, from hotel corridors and clinic waiting rooms to warehouse offices. Dean covers the area from our Northampton base, about 3.4 miles north, and plans each job around the business's opening hours.
An unusual mix of business premises for a village
Most of Grange Park is housing, but its position beside the M1 and A45 has brought in a wider spread of commercial property than the housing alone would suggest. Each type of premises needs a different approach to decorating:
| Premises | Where | What shapes the job |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels: Campanile and Holiday Inn Express | Saxon Avenue / Cheaney Drive | Rooms taken out of use in batches, corridors that stay open to guests |
| Grange Park Harvester and the Wig and Walnut pub | Near the M1; Baines Way | Trading hours, kitchens and bars, heavy-wear finishes |
| The Parks Medical Practice and Grange Park Dental Practice | Wilks Walk | Low-odour paint, wipeable surfaces, clinical areas kept running |
| Kiddi Caru Day Nursery | Wilks Walk | Low-odour, low-VOC products, rooms closed off and ventilated |
| Local-centre units, including Co-op Food | Williams Way | Customer areas, back-of-house and modern fascias |
| Warehouse offices | Saxon Avenue | Office and welfare areas inside logistics sites |
Our main commercial painting page covers how we plan and quote business work in general. The sections below cover what is specific to these Grange Park premises.
Hospitality beside the motorway

The hotels and the Harvester near the M1 serve travellers, so guests are there all week. For bedrooms and corridors, the practical approach is to agree a sequence with the duty manager: take a block of rooms out of use, decorate them, hand them back, then move on. Corridor walls take constant knocks from luggage and housekeeping trolleys, so we specify a durable, scrubbable emulsion and a tough satin on door frames, which can be touched up later without repainting a whole run.
Pub and restaurant interiors bring a different pressure. Work has to fit around service, and kitchen and bar areas need a degrease before any paint goes near them, followed by finishes that will stand up to steam and regular wiping.
Clinics, a nursery and the local centre on Wilks Walk
A medical practice, a dental practice and a day nursery sit together in the local centre. For all three, smell and dust matter as much as the colour. We use low-odour, water-based paints, sheet off and ventilate the area being worked on, and sequence the rooms with the practice manager so patients, staff and children are kept away from wet paint. Waiting areas and corridors need wipeable finishes that cope with cleaning. Shop units around Williams Way are modern premises rather than traditional timber shopfronts, so frontage work there is mainly fascias, door frames and interior refreshes.
Offices inside the Saxon Avenue warehouses

The three distribution warehouses on the former sand pit site, two of them run by Clipper Logistics and the third an Amazon UK distribution centre, are large industrial buildings. Coating their external cladding is specialist industrial work, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What a decorator can do well on sites like these is the interior: offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, canteens and welfare blocks, where scuffed walls and worn door frames affect how the space feels for staff. We work to the site’s induction and safety rules and fit around shift patterns agreed in advance.
Community buildings are part of the picture too. The community centre on School Lane, beside The Green, is the village’s main civic building, and Grange Park also has a sports pavilion and a religious centre. Halls like these are booked by different groups through the week, so we agree working days with whoever manages the bookings and choose hard-wearing finishes for walls that take chairs, tables and constant footfall.
