DH Painter & Decorator takes on commercial painting in Queen's Park, NN2, where the industrial estate west of the A508 sits 1.3 miles north of Northampton town centre. Dean paints units, workshops and small shop premises with hard-wearing coatings, phased around your trading hours, and quotes free.
A district split by the A508
Kingsthorpe Road runs straight through Queen’s Park and divides it in two. On the west side, the land is given over to an industrial estate: units, workshops and trade premises. The east side is residential terraces, with small local shops near Stanhope Road and businesses along the Kingsthorpe Road frontage down towards Kingsthorpe Hollow. That puts two quite different kinds of commercial painting within a short walk of each other, and they need different specifications.
Units and workshops west of Kingsthorpe Road

On the estate across the A508 from the terraces, durability comes first. Internal blockwork in a workshop picks up scuffs from pallets and trolleys, so we use hard-wearing coatings that can be cleaned rather than a domestic emulsion. Steel doors, personnel doors and exposed steelwork need loose rust and flaking paint taken back, a rust-inhibiting primer on bare metal, and a finish suited to how the door is used. Offices and staff areas at the front of a unit are closer to ordinary decorating, but still need a finish that copes with heavy foot traffic.
We work in sections so a unit can keep operating: one bay or one wall at a time, with materials stored out of the way of forklifts and deliveries. If your business has a quieter week or a planned shutdown, that is usually the time to tackle the main floor area.
Shops and offices on the Kingsthorpe Road frontage
The businesses facing Kingsthorpe Road sit on a busy A-road, and that shows on the paintwork. Traffic grime settles on window frames, doors and any painted stone or render, so washing down is the first step on every exterior surface. Inside, a small shop or office usually needs either a full repaint during a closure or a staged job over several days, one area at a time, so the premises can keep trading.
Part of Kingsthorpe Road, down to Kingsthorpe Hollow, lies within the Barrack Road Conservation Area. If your premises are on that stretch, a change of colour on the exterior walls may need checking with West Northamptonshire Council before work starts. Fascia boards, shop windows and entrance doors are covered on our shopfront painting page.
The Footshape Works and other historic buildings

The 1913 Barratt shoe factory on Kingsthorpe Road, known as the Footshape Works, is a Grade II listed Neo-Baroque building in stone, brick and terracotta, with metal-framed windows and ‘Boot Works’ lettering on the parapet. It has since been converted. Any painting that alters a listed building like this needs Listed Building Consent, and stone and terracotta should not be painted over without it. If you manage space in a building of this kind, we work only to the consented specification.
Planning the job with you
Before quoting, Dean walks the premises with you, notes where ladders or towers will stand, how deliveries and parking work on a main road, and agrees an order of work that keeps you open. We also ask about site rules, such as signing in, hi-vis or areas to keep clear, and build them into the plan. On the residential side, the small shops near Stanhope Road sit among terraces with on-street parking, so we unload early and keep the pavement clear for customers. We are fully insured. More on how commercial jobs are run is on our commercial painting page, and our Queen’s Park area page covers the residential side of the district.
