DH Painter & Decorator paints shopfronts in Briar Hill, NN4, about 1.3 miles south-west of Northampton town centre. The estate's only documented retail frontage is the small local store at The Springs, so work here is a compact job planned around the shop's opening hours.
One small frontage, so an honest page
Briar Hill is a residential estate built from 1969 onwards, and it has no high street or business park of its own. The sources we rely on show a single small convenience store at The Springs, in the NN4 8SX postcode it shares with the community centre and hub on The Springs Walk. If you run that shop, or own the unit, this page is for you. If you trade elsewhere in south Northampton, our main shopfront painting page covers how we approach larger and older frontages.
A small store frontage is usually a short list of surfaces: the fascia board that carries the sign, the frames around the glazing, any timber or metal stallriser below the window, the entrance door and its frame, and sometimes a shutter box or security grille. Dean looks at each on a survey visit and quotes only for what needs doing.
Painting while the shop keeps trading

A convenience store on an estate depends on people popping in throughout the day, and closing the door for a repaint is rarely an option. We plan the work so the shop stays open:
- the door and entrance frame are done in a quieter trading spell agreed with you, with a quick-drying coating so the doorway is usable again within hours
- the fascia and upper frames are worked from a ladder or small tower set to one side, so the door is never blocked
- the pavement is coned off only where we are working, with dust sheets lifted at the end of each session
- wet-paint signs go up wherever customers could brush against a surface
Because the store sits within an estate whose footpaths are separate from the roads, and parking in Briar Hill is often in shared courts, we bring only what is needed for each session and keep the shopfront clear for deliveries.
Fascia boards, signage and the weather on the slope
Briar Hill sits on the north-facing slope of the Nene Valley, and frontages that face away from the sun dry slowly and pick up green growth along the top of the fascia and around window beads. Ones that face the sun fade and chalk instead. Either way, the preparation is chosen for what the surface shows: washing and treating growth on the shaded side, sanding back chalky or flaking paint on the sunny one.
Where the business name is on a separate fixed panel, we paint around it with careful masking, or remove and refix the panel if you prefer. Where lettering is painted directly onto the board, we can repaint the background up to it, but new hand lettering is a job for a signwriter, and we are happy to work around their visit. Any repairs to rotten timber in the fascia or frames are pointed out on the survey before painting is priced, so you know exactly what the quote covers.
Other non-domestic work nearby

The other non-domestic premises in Briar Hill are community buildings and the primary school rather than shops: the community centre and hub on The Springs Walk, the Northampton Partnership Homes hub on Blackberry Lane, and Briar Hill Primary School on Thorn Hill. Interior and exterior work at those is covered by our commercial painting service, and like the shop it is timed around opening hours. For more on the neighbourhood itself, see our Briar Hill area page.
