DH Painter & Decorator paints shopfronts and commercial frontages in Little Billing, about 3.2 miles east of Northampton town centre. The village has very little commercial property, so most enquiries here will be for the Valley Road convenience store or a small community building.
A village with one shop
It is worth being straight about the scale of shopfront work in Little Billing. Only one building in the village trades as a shop: the Little Billing Convenience Store, on Valley Road. Beyond that, the frontages that face the public are a nursery in the listed Old Rectory and two modest chapel buildings up on Orchard Hill. Larger parades lie a short walk west, where footpaths from Codlin Close lead to Weston Favell Shopping Centre, opened in 1974, with the Standens Barn centre at Walledwell Court to the east. Those fall within our Northampton coverage as well, though this page sticks to Little Billing.
Repainting a neighbourhood convenience store

A shop on a residential road like Valley Road has its frontage seen by the same neighbours every day. The parts that wear first are predictable: the sign board above the window, the window frames and sills, the entrance door and the low panel beneath the glass, which takes kicks from trolleys, delivery cages and bikes. We repaint those in an order that keeps the door usable throughout. The entrance is either done first thing or split so one leaf is always dry, and wet paint signs go on anything a customer might brush.
Deliveries are a practical point on Valley Road, where our van also has to park on the street. We agree with you when the drop-offs happen and keep ladders, sheets and tins out of the delivery route. Any signwriting or lettering on the fascia is masked and left as it is unless you want it renewed by a signwriter.
Before quoting, Dean looks at what is actually on the frontage. Timber window frames and sills need sanding, filling and priming where bare. Aluminium or uPVC sections need cleaning and a primer that will grip them. Any rendered or brick panel gets a masonry finish. Pricing each surface separately makes it easy to phase the work if you would rather spread it out.
Small community frontages with special requirements
The Old Rectory is a Grade II listed early 18th-century building now used as a day nursery. Any exterior painting there, including its sash windows, six-panel door with fanlight and bracketed cornice, comes under listed building controls, so colour and material changes go through West Northamptonshire Council first. With young children on site, we would also use low-VOC products and agree working times with the nursery so that work stays out of play and drop-off areas.
The two Orchard Hill chapels, the Ebenezer Gospel Centre and the Brethren meeting room, are small buildings where the outside job is usually doors, notice boards and window frames. We can plan the work around services so the building is never shut by wet paint on a meeting day.
Colour freedom on Valley Road

The store sits among the later housing, away from the ten listed buildings on Church Lane and Orchard Hill, and Little Billing has no conservation area. That gives the owner a free hand on frontage colours, which the nursery in the Old Rectory, a few minutes away, does not have. A strong brand colour on the fascia and a darker, hard-wearing shade on the kick panel is a common split, and it keeps scuffs from trolleys and bikes less obvious between repaints.
Our shopfront painting page explains how we work around trading. The Little Billing area page covers residential work in the village, and our cost guide explains what shapes a quote.
