DH Painter & Decorator provides commercial painting in East Haddon, a village 7.3 miles north-west of Northampton. Dean decorates office suites like those at Grovelands Business Park, hospitality premises such as a pub, restaurant and hotel, and community buildings, scheduling work around tenants, guests and bookings.
What business premises look like in East Haddon
East Haddon has no high street or shopping parade. Its commercial buildings are a small, mixed group: the Grovelands office park west of the village, the Red Lion on Main Street, which operates as a pub, restaurant and hotel, the stone supplier Haddonstone, which uses the 17th-century Forge House on Church Lane, and community buildings such as the Village Hall and the 1998 sports pavilion at the War Memorial Playing Fields. Each has a different pattern of use, and that, more than the paint itself, decides how a repaint is planned.
Our main commercial painting page sets out how we work with businesses generally. Below is how that applies to the kinds of premises found in this village.
Office suites on a converted farm site

Grovelands Business Park was established in 2015 on the site of old farm buildings to the west of the village. It has 20 office suites ranging from 500 to 8,000 square feet, with shared kitchens and meeting rooms and free on-site parking. For a painter, that layout means occupied offices next to shared spaces that everyone uses.
- Suite repaints between occupiers: the quickest jobs, done while the space is empty.
- Occupied suites: work phased room by room, with low-odour waterborne paints so staff can stay.
- Shared kitchens and meeting rooms: scrubbable, hard-wearing finishes, scheduled around bookings so the rooms stay available.
Free on-site parking makes access simple, and vans and kit can be kept close to the suite being decorated. Because the park sits on its own site west of the village rather than on Main Street, deliveries of paint and access equipment do not have to compete with village traffic, and dust sheets, ladders and waste can be moved in and out without crossing other occupiers’ suites more than necessary.
Hospitality: bars, dining rooms and guest bedrooms
A pub that is also a restaurant and hotel has three sets of interiors with different demands. Bar and dining areas take scuffs from chairs, so lower walls need a tough, washable finish. Guest bedrooms want quick turnaround so rooms can be let again the same week, and low-odour paints matter where neighbouring rooms are occupied. Kitchens and back-of-house areas need finishes that cope with steam and frequent cleaning.
The usual approach is to work in sections, closing a few bedrooms or one part of the bar at a time, rather than shutting the whole building. Any external work on a building fronting Main Street is done from the roadside, so we plan it for settled weather and quieter times of day.
Village halls, pavilions and stone premises

| Premises | Practical point |
|---|---|
| Village Hall (former Village Institute, 1914) | Work arranged around hall bookings; hard-wearing paint in the main room and kitchen |
| Sports pavilion (1998) | Changing areas need moisture-tolerant, washable coatings; exterior timber faces open ground |
| Historic stone buildings in business use | Lias and limestone walls left unpainted; breathable products on any already-painted surfaces |
Where a business occupies a listed building, as with the 17th-century Forge House, alterations to external colours or finishes may need listed building consent. Bare stone dressings, mullions and quoins should never be painted over.
Insurance, paperwork and distance
We are fully insured, and we talk through access, working areas and timings with the site manager or owner before any commercial job starts. The drive out from Northampton town centre is about 7.3 miles. Our East Haddon area page describes the village’s buildings, and our cost guide covers what affects commercial quotes.
